The transition from the public service sector to the “privates” sector is one that currently has all eyes on it in Chile. Not one, but two Chilean politicians have swapped out their political podium for platforms on the naughty little corner of the internet. Cathy Barriga and Camila Polizzi have taken political scandals to a whole new level with their transition to creating adults-only content on platforms like OnlyFans.
Cathy Barriga isn’t new to being in front of a camera. The glittering former mayor of Maipú first rose to fame in the television series Mekano before she entered the political arena. Her glamorous approach to politics helped her to stand out in the election, giving her social media platform an edge over her competition. She appeared almost to be a living, breathing Instagram filter… and then the audits began. Her lavish spending during her time in office led one too many people to raise the question of what exactly she was spending so many public funds on, and thus she fell from grace. She is still under house arrest while the investigation as to whether or not she mismanaged public funds during her time in office is carried out.
While less dazzling than that of Barriga, Camila Polizzi’s career is certainly not lacking for flashy moments. Polizzi is a former councilwoman who made a name for herself as being an outspoken member of the political left. Her progressive voice in regional politics helped to keep her career moving right on up in the political hierarchy, until she too was accused of misappropriating public funds while in office. The disgraced councilwoman needed to find another means of earning an income while also under house arrest as the investigation into her actions takes course.
For both women, their political fall from grace resulted in needing to think quickly. The bills must still be paid, even if one is under house arrest on the political naughty list. Turns out that the naughty list is exactly where they needed to be in order to make their next lucrative career move.
Separately from one another, both women began creating adults-only content on channels that subscribers have to pay to access on platforms like OnlyFans. Both politicians decided to leave politics behind and join the throngs of content creators on adults-only platforms. That might seem like a decision out of left field, but in today’s world? That’s really just a new approach to the old chore of needing to make sure the money keeps rolling in, and when one is accustomed to a more lavish lifestyle— no shade to Barriga, we like pretty things too— the amount of money needed to keep one comfortable while they await trial is a titch more than what you need on hand to purchase peanut butter and bread.
The launch of their adults-only content creating careers has been largely well-received…by subscribers, anyway. The Chilean public opinion is less than thrilled about the matter, but they’re also no longer the audience that Barriga and Polizzi are trying to please. Their fans have followed, no doubt in part because of the fame attached to their names as politicians. Both women may have left office due to money issues, but the money is now definitely rolling in on their popular streaming channels.
From misuse of public funds, to their fans definitely getting what they’re paying for, the move of both Cathy Barriga dn Camila Polizzi to OnlyFans or similar platforms is a sign of the times. Political scandals don’t necessarily end careers, sometimes they help launch a whole new venture (ask George Santos). Gives whole new meaning to keeping the public satisfied.
