Harrowing police files have revealed more than a thousand crime reports linked to adult site OnlyFans over the past five years, including claims of rape and revenge porn.
A Mirror investigation has shone a light on the dark side of the £5bn a year industry, where creators share exclusive content with their subscribers, such as DIY pornography. Through Freedom of Information Act requests, it was revealed that police had been asked to investigate claims of rapes in connection to the making of videos for the site, as well as allegations of blackmail, stalking, harassment, child abuse material and threats of violence.
The distressing findings also show more than 70 complaints from victims of revenge porn, and at least ten cases of women claiming they are being forced to perform sex work on the site by their controlling partners. As part of the probe, every UK police force was asked how many crimes had been reported to them which referred to OnlyFans.
This saw 38 out of 45 forces respond and disclose of 1,613 crime reports where OnlyFans was recorded in the details of the crime. Of these, 27 forces provided some details of the individual crime reports, painting a disturbing picture of the platform which claims to have more than four million “creators” and over 300 million “fan” accounts.
There were 21 reported rapes where OnlyFans was mentioned, including ten in Kent, where there had been six arrests and three charges. Two of the ten cases involved girls aged under 16.
One alleged victim in South Yorkshire told officers that she had been strangled and raped by a partner who also set up an OnlyFans account where she says he forced her “to do sexual things on camera and he takes all the money”. A woman in West Mercia claimed she had been “emotionally and mentally abused” by her partner for 16 years, during which she says he “forced her to do an OnlyFans account” and controlled her money.
OnlyFans has revealed it has had nearly 180 legal requests from UK law enforcement in the last two years and a spokesperson told us: “OnlyFans works closely with law enforcement agencies around the world. Unlike other platforms, OnlyFans knows the legal identity of all its users so is uniquely placed to support investigations. This approach means OnlyFans is an extremely hostile environment for anyone seeking to abuse our platform.”
It comes amid the backlash towards OnlyFans content creators Lily Phillips and Bonnie Blue, who have faced criticism for their eye-watering sex stunts. Lily, 23, shot to fame after having sex with 100 men in 24 hours, while Bonnie slept with 1,057 in 12 hours.
Just days before Bonnie bragged about her troubling stunt online, Lily said she was ‘in training’ to hit the very same ‘four digits’ milestone. Lily’s plans emerged after she was filmed breaking down in tears in viral YouTube clip, causing widespread fear over the growing trend of extreme OnlyFans content.
Worried viewers of the documentary even called for the platform to be banned, citing an apparent lack of safeguarding for potentially vulnerable creators. However, the company’s CEO Keily Blair has previously insisted that the sex platform is ‘safe’, ‘feminist’ and ’empowering’.
