A former Skins actor has opened up about how joining OnlyFans ‘changed her life’ after being left with just £300 in the bank.
Character Katie Fitch is synonymous with the E4 drama as Megan Prescott played the teen from 2008 to 2010.
Her real-life twin sister, Kathryn, also starred in Skins as Katie’s twin, Emily.
The show itself ran from 2007 to 2013 and starred the likes of Dev Patel, Nicholas Hoult, Daniel Kaluuya and Kaya Scodelario, of whom all have gone on to have stellar careers.
Skins followed the lives of troubled teens in Bristol, tackling mental health, substance abuse, and relationships.
The series became popular for how real it was as Megan called it ‘a huge cultural moment’.
“Even now, people still compare shows to it like Euphoria. And Gen Z is rediscovering Skins on Netflix and making it relevant again,” the now-33-year-old told Metro.
“I do think it was an important show because it highlighted issues that weren’t being discussed at the time, especially for young people.

“Obviously, some of it was glamourised but I do think it was a good thing that Skins was made.”
She continued: “It was my dream job and I couldn’t have asked for anything better, it was all I wanted.
“Then after Skins, I had a bit of a reality check where I was like, ‘oh, actually, you don’t just go from a TV show to Hollywood’.
“You’re not set for life, it is hard work and you don’t just get things handed to you.”

While she made cameo appearances in a couple of shows, Megan had to work multiple jobs to keep afloat.
“The second I started stripping there was a lot of internalised misogyny,” she explained after delving in some sex work.
Her career was initially short-lived due to the stigma around the adult industry but everything changed when her manager of her ‘minimum wage’ job refused to give her furlough during the Covid-19 pandemic.

With £300 left in her account, she decided to take her mate’s advice and launch an OnlyFans page.
“It completely changed my life,” Megan said of selling nude photos of herself on the platform.
“I’m autistic so I’m very logical. I needed money for a show that involves a nude scene where I talk about contextual and conditional consent.
“In my mind if I’m going to be naked in the show why would I not use the platform that I’ve been using to get by for the last three years?”
She added: “There’s nothing shameful about sex work. There’s nothing shameful about OnlyFans. But I didn’t have a huge amount of skin in the game. I put my money where my mouth is.
“The world didn’t end. Nakedness is fine. I’ve been simulating sex on television since I was 16. I’m 33 now, I can be naked on the internet, it’s fine.”
