Canadian pole vaulter Alysha Newman said she is “monetizing” herself as an athlete by making her body “available for viewing to those on OnlyFans,” according to Steve Simmons of the NATIONAL POST. Newman: “I’m monetizing myself as an athlete and I think a lot of athletes in amateur sport don’t get that opportunity. To be more than just an athlete. I kind of got the monetization part first and became a bronze medalist after that.” On the site, Newman “posts photos of herself, many a combination of athleticism and sexuality,” and has a subscriber base of 25,000. The photos “blur the line between good taste and softcore pornography, depending on who is making the assessment.” Simmons noted Newman “makes money from pole vaulting, from her OnlyFans subscribers, from the commercials lined up by her agent Brian Levine, from the major sponsorship from Nike” and “possibly from a planned book and a possible Netflix series.” When told she was trending on social media after winning the medal, Newman “was excited by the concept.” She said, “Maybe I’ll get more subscribers.” She added, “I’m definitely going to stay on social media until I’m done with athletics. I haven’t decided how I’m going to take all that on afterwards, whether it be TikTok or Instagram, it’s how can you create profit from posting for sponsors” (NATIONAL POST, 8/8).
SUBSCRIBE AND LIKE: U.S. WEEKLY’s Ryan Hudgins cited a report in German outlet BILD about Newman’s decision to start her OnlyFans account, with Newman saying, “I earn money with what I post — you have to log in to find out. It makes me confident and I feel good about it.” She noted that she will “not upload photos of herself completely nude.” Instead, saying she posts “a lot of my training sessions, talks about nutrition and lots of tips and tricks.” Newman: “This website has connected me with many fans, more than any other pole vaulter before. What others think about it doesn’t bother me” (U.S. WEEKLY, 8/8).
