JAY, Okla. — A former Oklahoma middle school coach is facing more charges after his ex-girlfriend reported to Texas authorities she was blackmailed with sexually explicit photographs, that were photoshopped.

Jay School District fires coach accused of soliciting student

Delaware County Sheriff’s deputies arrested John Robert Downs, 26, of Grove on September 4, on a Tarrant County, Texas warrant for the felony charge of Distributing Intimate Images.

Cherokee Nation Criminal Court filed a motion to revoke Downs’s bail on allegations that he continues to engage in criminal behavior while free on $50,000 bond. The bond is for criminal charges of soliciting a Jay Middle School student.

Cherokee Nation Judge T. Luke Barteaux ordered a $100,000 cash-only bond for Downs.

In his latest run-in with law enforcement, Downs is accused of creating a fake OnlyFans page. On the phony page, he posted photoshopped images of his former girlfriend onto sexually explicit photos and disseminated those fake photographs to her employers.

OnlyFans is a fee-based online platform used for content creators, mainly used by amateur and professional sex workers.

The alleged retaliation comes after the woman broke up with him following his arrest involving the middle school student.

An Oklahoma County judge issued a five-year protective order on Sept. 6, 2023, against Downs for stalking, online records show. The woman in the protective order accused Downs of rape but declined to press charges, according to an Edmond, Oklahoma, police report dated June 1, 2022.

Downs reportedly pressured the woman with threats of sextortion or blackmail, saying he would publish nude photos of her if she refused him sexually.

Downs’ latest trouble occurred between May and August after he was released from Cherokee Nation custody, which, if proven true, violated his bail requirements.

“His (Downs) conduct shows he continues to use the internet and social media to victimize women,” the motion states.

Downs was fired immediately from the Jay School District where he was employed as a middle school baseball coach and part-time physical education teacher.

A female middle school student and Downs were allegedly engaged in inappropriate sexual discussions using the social media platform Snapchat, according to an arrest affidavit.

The first screenshot taken said, “Laying here. Probably gonna enjoy myself to you (two emojis) wyd,” according to the affidavit.

The abbreviation “wyd” is text jargon for “What (are) you doing?”

The second screenshot taken said, “Your … are so nice” and the third mentioned a sex act, the affidavit states.
