Australian Greens MP Stephen Bates has launched an OnlyFans in a bid to sway people to vote Green.
Brisbane’s Bates, who previously attributed his election success to a vivacious Grindr ad campaign, has launched an OnlyFans to announce the party’s plan to make PrEP free.
Pre-exposure prophylaxis, or PrEP, is an antiretroviral drug that when taken daily helps to prevent a person from contracting HIV.
Bates’ campaign is part of the Greens’ mission to make plan to make PrEP and PEP prescriptions free via an OnlyFans subscription.
‘Sometimes you have to make a splash’
“Ending HIV is too important to fly under the radar. I campaign on OnlyFans and Grindr because it gets attention.
“Sometimes you have to make a splash to make people pay attention to the things that matter,” Bates said, as reported by Q News.
In his first OnlyFans video he shared: “While PrEP is on the PBS, the gap payment can add up to hundreds of dollars a year.
“In a cost-of-living crisis, that’s just too much. You shouldn’t have to pay a fortune to be sexually responsible.”
The announcement is part of the Greens’ wider mission to make contraceptives free.
“I’ve got a huge policy announcement that’ll top Labor and the LNP,” Bates’ OnlyFans video teased.
He added: “The Coalition and One Nation are on a race to the bottom.
“Whipping up hate against LGBTIQA+ people and importing pointless culture wars that have real and damaging consequences. This election, the stakes have never been higher. There’s a real potential for a hung parliament.
“Keeping the Greens in will push Dutton out and force Labor to act. Because you will always come first with the Greens.”
Responses to the campaign on Instagram have seen people jest about Bates’ efforts.
“HUNG PARLIAMENT??” one person wrote, while another commented “Master Bates for Brisbane”.
Another wrote: “Oh, we will be Bating for Brisbane, let’s be clear on that!”
