During a recent court appearance, Courtney Clenney, a former OnlyFans model, faced trial for the second-degree murder charge following the death of her boyfriend, Christian Obumseli, in 2022. According to NBC Miami, the defense sought to demonstrate the killing as an act of self-defense, suggesting Clenney threw the knife from a distance in an attempt to protect herself.
The defense tried to get Clenney released on bond by bringing in a forensic pathologist who demonstrated knife throwing with an expert and a pig carcass. They argued that knife throwing was a possible defense for Clenney because half the knives stuck in the carcass. However, since Clenney claimed she threw the knife from about 10 feet away, the shorter distance of the demonstration raised doubts about their argument.
In addition to the demonstration, the defense brought Dr. John Marraccini, a medical examiner, who reviewed pictures of Clenney showing discoloration on her neck and the absence of cuts on her hands. Speaking in court, Marraccini suggested these signs indicated pressure around her neck and, hence, potential evidence of an altercation. As reported by WSVN, Marraccini stated the wound on Obumseli was consistent with a knife throw, backing up Clenney’s claim of self-defense.
Responding to the evidence presented by the defense, Clenney’s attorney Frank Prieto told WSVN, “Her self defense is credible and the actions she took that night were necessary to save her own life.” Meanwhile, state prosecutors argued against the validity of Marraccini’s testimony, as he was not the medical examiner in this case. The judge overseeing the case stated the need for more time to review the evidence before making a decision on the bond. Clenney is slated to appear in court again on Nov. 15.
