Olympic pole vaulter Alysha Newman has shrugged off negativity over the fact she models on OnlyFans.

On Wednesday, Newman won a bronze medal at the Stade de France by impressively clearing 4.85m to set a new national record for Canada.

Australia’s Nina Kennedy took gold while Katie Moon of Team USA clinched silver – but Newman was delighted to have medalled at her third Olympics after debuting at the 2016 Games in Rio de Janeiro.

The 30-year-old’s bronze is the first for her country in the pole vault since William Halpenny at Stockholm in 1912.

Newman successfully cleared the 4.85m mark on her second attempt before pulling off a unique celebration that has since gone viral.

The Ontario native ran off the crash mat and began to limp whilst holding her leg.

However, it quickly became clear she was just joking about being injured as she earned a chorus of laughter from the crowd by twerking.

Newman later shared fan footage of the ‘best angle’ of her celebration on Instagram and joked that she might have a photo of the iconic incident framed.

What seemed like a bit of fun hasn’t gone down well with everyone.

Some people believe it was a stunt to drive subscribers to OnlyFans where 65,000 users have ‘liked’ her profile.

Newman doesn’t care and defended her presence on the adult-streaming site, which is commonly misrepresented as a place to sell X-rated content.

The Olympic medallist posts ‘a lot of [her] training sessions’ on OnlyFans and is currently charging people a monthly subscription fee of $12.99 (£10.20).

“Of course, many people have a certain cliché when they think of OnlyFans,” Newman told BILD.

“I can’t change many people’s minds. But this website has connected me with many fans, more than any other pole vaulter before.

“What others think about it doesn’t bother me. I am who I am and I do it well.”

“I earn money with what I post – you have to log in to find out.

“It makes me confident, and I feel good about it.”

Regardless of the comments, the winning feeling will remain with her forever.

“It was a surreal moment. It was awesome,” Newman said after the event.
