OnlyFans co-founder Tim Stokely is launching a rival platform called Subs, which will host both «safe for work» and adult content. It aims to help creators build an audience more easily and make it easier for users to transition from free to paid content.

Stokely said that Subs will feature an Explore feed similar to Instagram and a Show feature similar to YouTube. They will be ad-free and will be aimed at directing viewers to paid options such as subscriptions, private messages and one-on-one calls, Business Insider reports.

One of the challenges with OnlyFans, he said, was that creators had a hard time building an audience on the platform, often relying on platforms like X (Twitter) and Reddit to drive traffic. While one-on-one calls are available on platforms like Cameo, they aren’t available on OnlyFans. Stokely called it a «new, lucrative revenue stream» that could bring in «premium rates.»

Tim Stokely founded OnlyFans with his brother Thomas and father Guy in 2016. They sold the company to entrepreneur Leo Radwinsky two years later. Stokely, who previously served as CEO of OnlyFans, stepped down in 2021.

Stokely said that after being fired from OnlyFans, he needed time to recover — he went to football with his father and traveled.

It is noted that Subs has some difficulties due to its adult content. Since pornography is not allowed in either Apple or Google’s app stores, the company is forced to launch a web app instead.

Stockley says using a web-based platform helps creators avoid unnecessary fees. However, Subs will have to compete with other platforms like Patreon, Substack, Passes, and Fanfix, which don’t allow pornography and can use web billing to avoid fees while still having their own apps. This could limit the platform’s appeal to underage creators.

Creators receive 80% of earnings on Subs — the same revenue split as on OnlyFans — and can also earn from referral links.

Stokely said the company is currently working with agencies and creators on onboarding, and that the platform is designed for a wide range of creators, including podcasters, athletes, musicians, and adult stars.

The founder of Subs believes that the platform’s mix of free and paid content will appeal to creators. He called the Shows feature a «game changer» because it places a creator’s paid profile directly behind their free content.

«Creators need more than just a paywall. It’s about giving them everything they require in one place», — he said.

Previously, the OnlyFans model anonymously told the publication «Economic Truth» that the National Police of Ukraine is conducting searches of Ukrainian adult content creators, about whom the State Tax Service and the Bureau of Economic Security became aware. According to her, investigators offered to take $100,000 in bribes.

Recently, the Ingulsky District Court of Mykolaiv considered the case of a cleaner from one of the housing and communal services companies in the city of Bashtanka, who was accused by law enforcement officers of distributing pornographic content. She sold two nudes for several hundred hryvnias on Telegram.
