The lawyer added: “There was a situation when Miss Doyle was in the nightclub which involved her friend and the woman.

“Miss Doyle, to her credit, realised there was potential for escalation and walked away.

“However, she heard her friend, who she said was in the early stages of pregnancy, screaming for help.

“She returned and stupidly got involved. She has expressed genuine regret and remorse for her behaviour.”

Sheriff Mary Shields imposed a five-month restriction of liberty order upon Doyle, keeping her at her home in Uddingston between 8pm and 7am.

Doyle has also been ordered to pay Miss Stewart £200 in compensation.

The sheriff stated that the sentence was an “alternative to custody.”
