It was stated that Miss Stewart meantime was in an “altercation with an unknown woman” in the toilets. Both women were said to be pulling and pushing each other with them landing on the floor.

Prosecutor Julianna Keenan said: “Doyle stepped in and attacked Miss Stewart when she was on the floor. Doyle stamped on Miss Stewart’s head and body multiple times and she also punched her multiple times on the head.”

The pair were separated and Doyle initially left the nightclub before returning where she was detained. Miss Stewart was taken to the first aid area meantime to be treated.

Lorna Clark, defending, told the hearing that the incident is Doyle’s third conviction for violence. The lawyer added: “There was a situation when Miss Doyle was in the nightclub which involved her friend and the woman.

“Miss Doyle, to her credit, realised there was potential for escalation and walked away. However, she heard her friend, who she said was in the early stages of pregnancy, screaming for help.

“She returned and stupidly got involved. She has expressed genuine regret and remorse for her behaviour.” Sheriff Mary Shields imposed a five month restriction of liberty order upon Doyle, keeping her at her home between 8pm and 7am.

Doyle, of Uddingston, Lanarkshire, has also been ordered to pay Miss Stewart £200 in compensation. The sheriff stated that the sentence was an “alternative to custody.”
