Olympic champion and OnlyFans star Alysha Newman has revealed the reason behind her twerking in celebration after her bronze medal victory.
Newman made headlines after winning the bronze for Canada at the Paris 2024 Olympics’ pole vault event. After winning the medal, she pretended she’d suffered a hamstring injury, before twerking in front of the cameras. The unique celebration raised eyebrows, and the 30-year-old has now addressed her thought process behind it.
Alysha Newman explains her Olympics twerking celebration
Speaking to CBC Sports, Newman said that she has suffered many injuries during her career, and wanted to “lighten up” her coaches on the sidelines.
“I laugh because I’m always injured, and I’m always getting back on the horse,” Newman said. “So I said, I’m gonna scare my coaches, because I want them to lighten up. There’s photos of them being really serious, and I could feel [they were] intense.
“So I said, I’m gonna fake an injury and then I’m gonna dance after,” she said. “But it just happened very fluid. I didn’t honestly think, ‘I’m gonna twerk.’”
Alysha broke a national record for Canada during the women’s pole vault, clearing4.85m during the event. Along with her success as an athlete, she’s also carved out a career on OnlyFans, even reducing monthly subscription prices before the Paris 2024 games.
