We’re sure you’ve heard of the website called OnlyFans, right? But have you ever heard of a K-Pop artist joining the site? We’re betting that South Korean-American Jay Park is the first to do it, and, boy, is he making rounds for it.

In case you haven’t heard of OnlyFans, in its simplest sense, it’s a platform that lets people of all genders, races, and social backgrounds, monetize their own exclusive “content” to their fans, a.k.a subscribers. It’s not entirely mandated to be just adult content, but it’s largely known to be that kind of platform nowadays. Essentially speaking though, it’s not a venue that K-Pop artists or idols would openly announce their membership for.

So, when Jay Park revealed that he was joining OnlyFans, everyone was more than surprised to know! And take note: yes, he personally announced it via an Instagram post. The artist shared the news with a simple yet intriguing post saying, “Follow ya boi on @onlyfans [insert smiling devil emoji] #McNasty our June 30th.”

While we haven’t subscribed to his OnlyFans (yet), we can already tell that the move to the platform was strategically set to promote his upcoming new song, “McNasty.” Jay even put his name as Mr. McNasty on the platform.

It might look like an interesting promotion of his new track, but some Internet users find it rather dreadful to see the artist proudly using the platform. But he wasn’t bothered by the comments. Jay even refuted the comments that said that he’s doing OnlyFans because he’s “low on money.” He posted his reaction through his official X (formerly Twitter) account.

He clarified that although he has an OnlyFans account, all the content he uploads there is completely free—you just have to create your own OnlyFans account to see it.

Who is Jay Park?

Jay Park is known for being one of the powerhouses that contributed to South Korean hip-hop music. He was a former member of the OG K-pop boy group, 2PM in 2008. After his comments about training as a K-Pop idol surfaced (and received backlash), he left the group in 2009.

He continued his career as a solo artist and became famous for his songs, “Need To Know,” “All I Wanna Do,” and more. As of 2022, Jay Park established his third music label called MORE VISION.

What is OnlyFans?

For the record, you can have an OnlyFans account if you’re from the Philippines. However, it’s said that it’s quite tricky for someone living in the Philippines to be a “creator”—who is basically the one who sells content on the platform. But still, you can be a “subscriber” or the one who buys content.

In June 2024, Cosmopolitan US reported that the number of users on the U.K.-based OnlyFans grew to 82.3 million by the year 2020 since it was founded in 2016. As we all know, it was also the year of many city lockdowns, and people were deemed to be…lonely at home.

This year, the platform recorded a whopping 190 million active accounts, 2.1 million of which are creators, according to Cosmo’s report.

Well, aside from the thrill of getting subscribers who will find your content engaging for their daily lives, the pay is what drives the platform and its users. Cosmo US stated that on average, an OnlyFans creator could earn about $180 every month, depending on how good their content is. So, if people want more money from the platform, the competition is indeed tough as there are hundreds and millions more content that they have to compete to get the subscribers’ unwavering attention.

As for Jay Park, he’s keeping all OnlyFans content for free, perhaps until “McNasty” hits all streaming platforms. But who knows, he might even stay there even after the song’s release 😉
