• Despite OnlyFans banning chatbots on the platform, the top subscribed models are likely using chatbots to chat with their subscribers.
  • Some of these chatbots will source personal information from users, just like certain AI girlfriend apps.
  • This phenomenon will likely increase as models look to make the most money from their fans with the least amount of effort.

The OnlyFans platform was built on creating relationships between creators and their fans via direct messaging and video chat, but soon became an outlet for purveyors of adult content to sext with subscribers for more money.

Now saturated with porn, agencies of some of the top models on the platform have told Reuters that most of the time it’s an AI chatbot that is messaging fans and not the model themselves.

This is despite the OnlyFans terms of service prohibiting the use of AI chatbots – “You cannot use an AI chatbot to write chats or direct messages,” OnlyFans warns its creators.

One particular chatbot used by agencies is called “FlirtFlow,” which according to adverts “captures the essence of years of relationship-building expertise, ensuring every interaction is genuine and meaningful.”

While the companies that offer these chatbots are not affiliated with OnlyFans, they are with creators on the platform and their agencies. According to one of these agencies – NEO Agency – which manages 70 OnlyFans models of which half use the FlirtFlow AI, for these chatbots to really convince subscribers, models have to collect personal information.

“You cannot directly jump into the typical ‘Hey, Daddy, tip me!’ stuff,” explained NEO Agency CEO Luc Jaris.

“You have to start by really comprehending the fan . . . Where’s he from? What’s his problem? Why does he hate his boss? What’s his dog’s name? You collect information. Because otherwise, how are you supposed to connect with him? How are you supposed to get money out of him?”

This sounds eerily similar to how generative “AI girlfriend” apps work, where the chatbots are essentially information farms so that their creators can sell the personal details of thousands to advertisers.

Chatbots like FlirtFlow are the most effective with super popular models on the platform, where normally even entire teams of people chatting with fans would not be enough. They operate the poorest when it comes to small subscriber bases and fans with certain erotic kinks like domination or submission. For these sorts of things, a human is better at making more money from fans.

Another chatbot called Botly takes it one step further and charges $15 a month for software that analyses subscriber questions and chat history to generate a personalised response. Its creators say that Botly’s technology is used across more than 100 000 OnlyFans chats per month. Its clients are mostly management agencies.

Botly’s own spin on chats bypasses OnlyFans’ terms of service because a human must still send the AI-generated chat messages.

With the growing popularity of certain OnlyFans models, those with millions of subscribers seemingly have no choice but to obfuscate how they chat with their fans. Here we boil down the problem of the OnlyFans platform as it essentially becomes the same thing as the AI girlfriend app, with the added benefit of receiving adult content for a monthly fee.

“What we did find (buried in the Terms & Conditions) is that these companies take no responsibility for what the chatbot might say or what might happen to you as a result,” Mozilla researchers said about chatbot apps that pretend to be women.
