Working 9-5 isn’t for everyone. For many, a steady corporate job can feel soul sucking and mind numbing — and that’s exactly how Australian OnlyFans model Alix Lynx felt at her last job. The 35-year-old used to work in social media for a large company, making around $80,000 a year. While many people would love to have that kind of income and sit at a desk for 8 hours a day, Lynx was fed up.

“The worst part is having to be at the exact same place at the same exact time every single day. It was like Groundhog Day,” she said in a recent interview. One assumes she is referring to the Bill Murray movie where he repeats the same day, Groundhog Day, for the entire movie, because she continued: “The work was monotonous and boring. I felt like I was on somebody else’s time and making someone else’s money.”

But Lynx put up with the career, not sure what else to do. That is, until her frustration with her boss grew. Lynx constantly shared her ideas with her boss, who repeatedly squashed them and went in a different direction.

“I hate being told what to do when it is coming from someone who I know doesn’t know as much as I do about a certain thing. I didn’t like having to smile and nod and say ‘yes’, when inside I felt like I had other ideas and we could have done certain things better.”

That’s when Lynx decided: “Oh, I need to be my own boss.”

And that’s exactly what she did. The Australian woman now has over 2 million followers on Instagram and a booming OnlyFans account where she creates adult content.

What is her life like now? Lynx says, “As a business owner, I’m wearing a bunch of hats. I’m overseeing everything, I’m contacting my publicist, I’ve got graphic design meetings, I’m working on branding stuff. I’m chatting with other creators, planning out scenes, figuring out what kind of scenes we want to shoot, co-ordinating schedules, planning social media content, when we’re posting, what we’re posting. I’m constantly steering my brand and my business in the direction I want it to go.”

While she admits that running her OnlyFans business is harder than working in a 9-5, she wouldn’t change a thing.

“The difference is that it is something that I love to do. So it really does not feel like work, but don’t get me wrong, it is harder because I have to think on my feet all the time.”

Not only is she thinking on her feet all the time, she’s working more hours than she did in her corporate job.

“I’m pretty much on from the moment I open my eyes to the time I go to bed. It’s hard to put an exact number on how many hours I work a week, definitely more than 40,” she said.

But like many other entrepreneurs and business owners, Lynx wonders what exactly she should consider as “work”.

Is posting on Instagram to drive followers to her OnlyFans account work? Is a call with her graphic designer work? Is shopping for a sexy little outfit work?

If it contributes to her business, yes.

“I’m always doing something, weekends, Sundays … I work through it all. I feel like I’m wasting time if I’m not doing something productive. I optimize my time a lot,” she said.

But that’s the key for Lynx. Even if she is working so much more, it’s all her time now.
