Not every athlete is lining up for an OnlyFans page. A day after former NBA champion Lamar Odom made headlines for joining the platform, WNBA guard Sophie Cunningham made it clear she has no plans to follow. According to The Big Lead‘s Josh Sanchez, Cunningham shut the idea down during her appearance on comedian Theo Von’s This Past Weekend podcast.

A quick no

When Von asked whether she had ever thought about starting an account, Cunningham didn’t take long to answer. “No. I’m like, yeah. Yeah. Not my alley. I keep my pride to myself,” she said, as quoted by both The Big Lead and HITC‘s Luke Randall.

Sanchez writes that Cunningham’s answer came down to image: the platform simply doesn’t fit the one she’s trying to keep.

A jab at OnlyFans’ clean-content push

Cunningham also took a shot at OnlyFans’ ongoing effort to promote family-friendly, non-adult content. “That’s like McDonald’s trying to serve enchiladas. No one is going there for that,” she joked, per The Big Lead.

It’s a line that sums up the platform’s branding problem. OnlyFans has spent years courting athletes, fitness coaches and other non-adult creators, but to a lot of people, including a well-known pro athlete, the name still means one thing.

Why people keep asking

Cunningham has become one of the most talked-about players in the WNBA. Randall notes that her fame grew after she spoke out against trans women competing in the league, and that her bold tunnel outfits and outspoken attitude built her a large and very online following. He adds that the attention has had a darker side, pointing to her earlier comments that the FBI is tracking about 20 stalkers.

She’s also heading into an uncertain offseason. Sanchez reports that Cunningham is set to become an unrestricted free agent now that her one-year deal with the Indiana Fever has run out. Instead of subscription content, HITC points out, she has been spending time around motorsports, including a turn waving the ceremonial checkered flag at the Formula 1 United States Grand Prix in Austin.

The takeaway

The same week Lamar Odom turned OnlyFans into a career move, Cunningham showed the other side of the athlete conversation: for some stars, the money isn’t worth the brand risk. Her McDonald’s line also shows the problem OnlyFans still has in getting people to see it as more than an adult platform, no matter how many non-adult creators it signs up.
